Creamy, tangy, and so easy to make, you’ll love having this Whipped Feta Dip in your repertoire. It’s perfect for spreading onto just-baked sourdough or using as a dip for fresh or roasted vegetables. I love a quick dip that really packs a flavor punch, and this one can’t be beat!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Super simple - This dip takes 5 minutes to make and you might even have all the ingredients in your kitchen already. Plus, there’s no cooking required - just put everything in the food processor and whizz it up!
  • So flavorful - Combine the creamy brininess of good feta, the brightness of fresh lemon, and the zing of raw garlic and you get a fantastically delicious dip with so little effort. Put it out with some sourdough crackers and I guarantee you’ll impress any guests.
  • Easy to customize - This dip is great on its own, but I love that you can dress it up with just a pinch of this or that. Drizzle on your favorite olive oil and a sprinkle of black pepper or add some spice with a pinch of red pepper flakes or smoked paprika.

Ingredients

  • Feta cheese - any kind is fine, but this is the main ingredient, so you’ll want a good quality block of feta.
  • Cream cheese - this adds a lovely richness to the dip, but you can also substitute a thick whole-milk Greek yogurt if you prefer
  • Lemon juice and zest - I recommend fresh lemon juice, and you’ll want to use unwaxed lemons for the zest.
  • Garlic - I love the bite of the fresh garlic, but if you’re sensitive to it use only half a clove. Roasted garlic will also give a mellower flavor.
  • Olive oil - good quality extra virgin olive oil will give the best flavor for the feta dip.

Let's Make Whipped Feta Dip!

Put the feta into the bowl of a food processor, breaking it up just enough to fit. Add the cream cheese, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic and olive oil and puree on high speed. Whip until the feta dip is smooth, stopping to scrape the sides of the bowl as needed. That’s it!

Spoon it into a bowl and add any toppings or garnishes you like, or just eat it straight!

There are so many more ways to dress this up and it’s fun to add a pop of color. I love adding a sprinkle of chopped fresh herbs like chives, parsley, mint, or basil. And if you want to go a step further, any kind of toasted chopped nuts would be delicious sprinkled on top, such as pine nuts, pistachios, or almonds. Toasted pumpkin or sunflower seeds would be tasty too!

Kate’s Recipe Tips

  • Go for the block of feta rather than the pre-crumbled feta, which can be dry and usually includes extra additives to keep it from clumping. You’re putting it in the food processor anyway, so it doesn’t require extra work other than breaking it in half.
  • The texture will be smooth and silky when just whipped and thickens up a bit after you put it in the fridge. If I’m making the feta dip in advance, I let it sit out at room temperature a bit before serving.

How To Serve Whipped Feta Dip

How To Store and Freeze

Store the Feta Dip in a sealed airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days. I don’t recommend freezing this dip as the texture will change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute if I don't have cream cheese?

Yes, whole-milk Greek yogurt and sour cream are both good options, although the flavor will be slightly different. Make sure to taste and reseason as needed.

Can I make this with bottled lemon juice?

I recommend using whole lemons for the bright, fresh flavor. If you only have bottled lemon juice, try the recipe first without and start with a very small amount to see how you like the flavor.

Can I use another type of garlic such as garlic powder or garlic granules?

I love the bite of fresh garlic, but you can substitute with other garlic options if you like. Just keep in mind it may alter the flavor or texture.

I don’t have a food processor, can I make this with a stand mixer or by hand?

You can definitely still make a feta dip, just keep in mind you won’t get the same smooth texture. If you don’t have a food processor or blender, chop the garlic finely first
