FRIED SOURDOUGH PIZZA DOUGH - PINTEREST IMAGE

This quick and easy fried sourdough pizza dough might just be your new favorite way of using up leftover pizza dough! If you've never tried this delicious snack, you've just got to give it a go!

We eat a lot of sourdough pizza in our house yet surprisingly we often have portions of dough leftover. I put it in a sealed container in the fridge with the best intentions of making more pizza. But I often find the container 4 or 5 days later and think oops!

I hate wasting good dough ... especially when it contains my precious sourdough starter! So I started making fried sourdough pizza dough for my family as a quick, easy way to use up the dough ... and it's now one of our favorite ways to use up leftover pizza dough!

The best part is, it's so easy! It takes literally no time to prep and fry it and the flavor is out of this world delicious!

How To Make Fried Sourdough Pizza Dough

This recipe utilises sourdough pizza dough from this sourdough discard pizza recipe. You can of course make a fresh batch of dough if you prefer.

You can really use any amount of dough you have on hand - it's meant to be a recipe that uses up what you have on hand to reduce your food waste.

You want to make sure you don't leave the dough too thick or it won't cook through in the middle and will be gummy and uncooked - even if it's lovely and golden brown on the outside.

    1. Divide your pizza dough into 50 to 100g portions (depending on how big you'd like your fried pizza dough to be). If the dough has been in the fridge, allow it to sit at room temp for a while to warm up.
    2. Gently shape your sourdough pizza dough into a round using your fingers. Push your fingers into the dough to dimple it and give it texture when it's fried.
    3. Heat up your cast iron skillet or fry pan until it's searing hot. Add your olive oil - you want an even covering on your pan to get your pizza dough bubbling.
    4. Carefully add your pizza dough round to the oil and allow it to bubble on one side before you flip it over. Around 2 minutes on each side should be sufficient.
    5. Remove your fried sourdough pizza dough from the pan and sprinkle with salt and herbs of your choice before cutting and enjoying!

How To Serve + Eat Fried Sourdough Pizza Dough

Fried sourdough pizza dough is absolutely delicious just as it is - sprinkle with a little salt, drizzle more olive oil and enjoy!

But if you want to make it a little more fancy ... try some of these ideas:

    • Sprinkle with fresh rosemary and rosemary flowers.
    • Serve with a dish of cultured butter for a tasty indulgence.
    • Try serving if with a flavored whipped butter like whipped herb and garlic butter or this spicy jalapeño honey butter.
    • Sprinkle with homemade Everything Bagel seasoning.
    • Accompany your pizza dough with a selection of cheeses, olives and meats for a sourdough twist on a charcuterie board.
    • Top your fried sourdough pizza dough with fresh rocket, cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese and a big drizzle of good quality olive oil.
