What Does Whipped Brie Butter Taste Like?

This dreamy spread has a creamy consistency and tastes rich and buttery with creamy Brie cheese under tones. It's not overpowering, has a mild taste and is really the perfect base for so many other flavors to be layered on top.

Using a stronger tasting or better quality Brie will give you a more complex flavor to the whipped butter, but you really can use any type of Brie you like, whether it's triple cream, double or just whatever is on sale at your local grocer.

How To Make Whipped Brie Butter

Take the butter out of the fridge around 10 minutes before you want to make this recipe.

While the butter is softening, take a sharp knife and cut the rind off the Brie (it doesn't matter whether you use a larger wheel or 2 smaller wheels, as long as it weighs 250g). Dispose of the brie rind (my chickens love eating brie rind).

Once the butter has softened a little, chop the butter and Brie into chunks and add it all to your food processor.

As you can see, it's ok if there are still bits of the Brie rind on the cheese, a little won't matter at all.

Whip the butter and Brie until it's pale and creamy and looks like butter. This will take around 1 to 2 minutes, depending on how powerful your food processor is. You might need to scrape down the sides of the bowl a few times to ensure it's all incorporated.

Scrape the whipped brie butter into a serving bowl and give it a generous drizzle of honey and scattering of chopped pecans.

Serve with sourdough crostini, sourdough French bread or toasted sourdough cibatta. I also love serving this with gourmet sourdough crackers.

Is A Food Processor Essential for this Recipe?

I would say yes. A food processor or high powered blender is essential to get a creamy texture. I used my Thermomix (a type of food processor) and blended the Brie and butter for around 1 minute.

You could try using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer, but it will depend on the Brie as to whether this works. Creamy Brie should be fine, but if your Brie is a bit harder or too cold, the electric hand mixer might have difficulty whipping it together.

Different Variations of Whipped Brie Butter?

I am absolutely obsessed with this whipped Brie butter and have been making it several times a week (don't judge me ... I have a lot of sourdough bread to use up haha). Here are some of the other things I love to add to the top of my whipped brie butter when I'm sick of honey and pecans (crazy I know).

  • Drizzle in extra virgin olive oil and fresh herbs. Fresh thyme, dill, parsley and chives all work really well. A little sprinkle of salt crystals is welcome here too!
  • Warm some fig jam just a little and spoon onto the top of this Brie cheese recipe. Add some toasted walnuts or chopped pecans and a sprinkling of black pepper.
  • For a spicy version, drizzle your Brie butter in hot honey and chopped jalapeños. A drizzle of chili olive oil is nice too!
  • A beautiful variation to this recipe is using a wild flower honey to drizzle over the top and then sprinkling with some crushed lavender flowers and a little salt. So special!

How To Use Whipped Brie Butter

While this really is the dreamiest spread ever, you can actually use this whipped Brie butter in lots of different ways!

  • Use it as the base of a butter board (such a fun way to serve sourdough bread and butter).
  • Roll it into a log and wrap in parchment paper and use as a compound butter on top of steak, fish or chicken. It's similar to using this cranberry orange butter.
  • Serve on a platter with other soft cheese like goat's cheese or feta cheese and a selection of sourdough crackers.
